I think it greatly depends on how much your team travels outside of your metro area. A team that begins competing at the end of May thru early Aug, playing tournaments every weekend, and a few weekday league games will cost you an average of $1,500 to $1,800 in team fees. Travel will be in addition to that if you play tournaments requiring hotel, flights, etc...
I think the "team fees" will be the only "set fee" for each player and his family.
The other fees --- Travel, meals, lodging varies GREATLY between families. The cost of hotels/motels vary and those that plan ahead can save even more. Some families require more than one room while I have seen some families share rooms with other families. Some teams have "team" rooms while other teams require the parents handle that. Personally I think it's best if the player stays with the parents and SLEEPS. Food prices vary greatly. Steak dinner overlooking the bay or bologna sandwiches with chips in the motel??? A wheeled cooler became one of our most used pieces of "luggage" avoiding where we could the 1.50 soft drinks/water and the 2.00 gatorades. Many parents carpool to tournaments with other families while some fly and rent maybe using company frequent flyer miles --- while other drive (sub compacts to SUVs). To really save money give your son 50 bucks and let him ride and stay with another family --- I've had a few of those players hitch a ride in the past.
as double day said $1500 - $1800 will get you on a great dfw team with a proven history of college and pro exposure. $1000 - $1400 will get you on the next level of exposure opportunity. there are lots of independent teams in dfw that have great players and great coaching, but not the invites to the big tournaments. these teams are generally lots less $$.

i heard there is a new outfit out of denton that charges double what DBAT Mustangs, Tigers, etc charge and have no history or proven record.........but they have 2 full teams, so somebody's buying!

Politically and perhaps for good reason, the kids do "need" to participate with their high school varsity summer team during the week as well...it's a lot of baseball, but son wouldn't have it any other way.
