To play for our 17-18 summer program in the past, the cost per player was about $1,000, assuming an 18 person roster. This included airfare, hotel accomodation, etc... for one far away tournament, as well as all other costs. The out of pocket expense to each player was about 30-40% of that thanks to sponsors. We as coaches always paid our own way. I know that some programs build the coaches' costs into registration fees. Nothing wrong with that, they are volunteering their time, we simply have chosen not to go that route.

For this money, we feel like our players were treated well (good coaching, quality competition and exposure, 50-60 game schedule, etc...).
The Maryland Monarchs, and arguably the best of Maryland's 18U summer baseball programs in recent years, has a yearly budget of ~ $65K (and as sponsored by a few generous "philans", so that each individual player's cost are minimized).

The best of America's 'amateur' HS baseball events (and not arguable) in recently years is the AFLAC games. AFLAC's budget is rumored
~ $1.6M range (as sponsored by a generous corporate such that each individual player's and coaches costs are basically eliminated.)

The Bear Classic, a HS Showcase for Our National Pastime, [and non-profit LLC & in it's 16th year], has a $6K annual budget, the bulk of which is attributed to field(s) rental fees, officiating (highest increases in '05 & '06 are anticipated) and O&M. Due to a decade of generous benefactors, the players participating with the host team(s) have not been charged one dime (and contrary to that rumor mill.)

Players on Maryland American Legion summer programs have been sucessful over the long haul to minimize costs, yet is also Post sponsored dependent.

Typical (and average) budgets for DC area summer 22U College teams ~ $30K

If interested in any detailed line-item budget, email me.

Regards
Bear
