Today, for the first time, I read this article in SI about Jill Costello.
Stories like this one leave me silent and sullen. The loss of this life is so tragic.
For me, there is little in sports that is more meaningful than the mental side.
I believe it is the difference for athletes of great skill in who might succeed and who might not.
Jill Costello and her story are, in the extreme, very much what college athletics can be about: teamwork, devotion, teamwork, unselfishness, humility, commitment, dedication, team and sacrifice and teamwork.
The combination of a leader and sacrifice, well there is nothing more significant, no matter what the college sport. This article illustrates the ultimate extreme.
If you are like me, you will need tissues before the last word is read:

'You don't have to be a great player to play in the major leagues, you've got to be a good one every day.'
