They all want "power" but many like the crafty lefty just as much if he gets batters out consistently

o, what is a good range of speed for lefty's? Also what kind of pitches do coaches like the most??

The pitch they like the most is the consistent strike. Best pitch in baseball. As to velocity, while many will tell you a lefty needs to throw mid-80's or better, there are more pitchers out there who don't hit 84 or 85 than you'll believe.

Yesterday, I saw a right hander for a West Coast Conference (D-1) school who never got over 82 and he threw three innings, if I recall correctly.

What about size wise? Is a lefty who throws low 80's and less than 6ft tall desirable to college coaches?

I will say this once again-- if a pitcher, RHP/LHP, throws strikes and gets guys out he will be desirable

As one lefty catcher to another, I might suggest you concentrate on another position. Catching is fun, until you get cut because you throw with the wrong hand.

There is room on rosters for under 6 foot lefty pitchers around throwing around 80, IF you move and locate the ball enough.

leftycatcher - I agree with Dad. My son is a lefty who was a very good catcher and did so periodically during youth and HS. However, ALL of his coaches knew that he wouldn't catch in college, so they rarely put him there as he got older.

I would recommend working on your pitching as well! Will take you alot further if you have the ability than catching left handed.
