Rule 10.09 (e) Score a sacrifice fly when there are less than two out the batter hits a fly ball or line drive that is handled by an outfielder or an infielder running into the outfiled which -

1) is caught and the runner scores after the catch, or
2) is dropped and a runner scores if in the official scorers judgement the runner could have scored after the catch, had the fly ball been caught.

If the outfielder held on to the ball for a catch and out then it is a Sac fly with as many RBI's as tag and score. If he dropped the ball then by the way the play is discribed I score it a hit and credit the batter with a hit equal to the base he reaches and as many RBI's as runs scored. All of that is predicated on assuming no other errors occur on the play allowing runners to advance.

This actually might not even be a catch. To score a caught ball, there has to be a release of the ball. If he was knocked out and maintains possession of the ball, there still has to be some release. I am not sure how much time he has to wake up and voluntarily release it!

Anybody know?
Actually the out is when the ball is held up and proven to be caught. I've been the guy on the ground. The hitter was called out. The guy who took the ball from my glove was the same guy who yelled "plenty of room" just before the lights went out. The next week I watched him leap for a ball a foot from the fence.
