I would appreciate any suggestions from those who have sent their players to Cressey training. I have a HS Junior, pitcher-only, who will be playing a pretty busy summer tournament schedule, and maybe attending a couple showcases and camps if he chooses.

If he throws 1 - 2 days per week with his team, I assume that would leave time for him to be able to get 2 or three days in the gym. I recently reached out to them about some advertised college workout offerings they recently tweeted out. Options 1 seems ok as long as there is pitcher specific stuff included - side sessions, etc. Option 2 looks too intensive for a player with a busy summer schedule. Maybe more appropriate for his last summer before college.

I don't know if either one really applies as my boy is still in HS. I don't want to burn him out. I plan to follow up with them but I was interested to know what other pitchers have done.

Feel free to message me privately if you are not comfortable posting public responses.

Thanks!

Option 1.

You could participate in our standard program at our college rate, which includes individualized programming and unlimited supervised training sessions here at CSP. Most of our college guys are getting in to train anywhere from 3-6 days/week...

Option 2.

We're actually just rolling out an immersive program for college athletes looking to add velocity...

CMASS,

Kudos to you and your son for looking at Cressey!  My older son did what you highlight as option 1 and he threw a couple times a week with Matt and Christian.  It was highly beneficial for him.

My younger guy (also now a college player) trained at a similar facility here in California and it was highly beneficial for him too.

A couple points/thoughts which may or may not be relevant:

- In college, mandatory weight training occurs year round, including in season.  Out of season it can be even more intense as it's typically coupled with conditioning sessions too.

- If your son is a pro prospect / top tier D1 stud now, then doing high end tournaments this Summer to get exposure now to MLB scouts and D1 programs makes sense to me.  That would leave a little time to get some strength and conditioning training in this Summer too.

- At the other end of the spectrum, if your son is a possible D3 prospect in next Summer 2018 recruiting season, I'm not a huge fan of the full tournament schedule for a rising Junior this Summer 2017.  That type of player (and I had one of each) could benefit most from a balanced schedule of some games, but much more training and development IMHO.  In this scenario, more strength training, velocity improvement, etc. could be hugely beneficial for showcasing as a Junior later this Fall (e.g., Headfirst Jupiter) and Winter (e.g., camps at Harvard, Northeastern, et.al.).

Good luck!
