Cy Young interesting fact.

He holds many records, but two that will never be topped:
Most career wins- 511
Most complete games- 749

Imagine, to top the complete game record you would have to pitch 30 complete games per year for 25 years!

He also holds the record for most losses at 316. As they say, baseball is a game of failures.

He also holds the record for most starts - 815. That means he completed 92% of the games he started. Unbelievable.

You will never see that again.

I read that as late as the early 1950's Cy Young would appear at Hall of Fame inductions. Really makes me feel old since I was born in 1954.

All I can say about Cy Young is that he never had to face one Arthur Louis Shamsky.

If he did - he would never had gotten 511 wins. 510 maybe - but not 511.

Makes me think of Juan Marichal vs. Warren Spahn; 16 innings, 1-0 both men went the distance. (Willie Mays hit a walk-off with one out in the 16th so I guess Warren only worked 15 and one-third; slacker)
