D-3 schools do not give out athletic scholarships but they do provide merit/academic scholarships and/or financial/need based scholarships.

As far as the "requirements" for a catcher the skills you need obviously vary from program to program, but the d-3 level of play is generally very good and very competitive from my observations. NOt sure what speciific info you're looking for though.
Fozz-
D3 schools can't give out scholarships...but NAIA schools can and they are relatively the same size.
The requirements are the same as they are at any college: the kid must be a great player. Sometimes people are misinformed and believe that small school kids play like H.S. teams...not true. Many small D3 or NAIA schools could and do compete real nicely with the big boys.
If you are going to play in college, you'd better have game...it's that simple.
About just "having game" , i totally agree with that but there are exceptions (along with everything in life). I know a few players from high school who weren't "ideal" college ballplayers but got scholarships and made college teams because of SIZE. I hate to say it, (because im very short and a MIF) but size can take you a long way. Sure you have to have skills, but some sneak by with little if any skills just because of their height.
