So the consensus is the top 6 teams in D1 basically make up all three lists. If I'm correct the record determines the amount of all state players you get.

These teams had this many all-state players:
Keene - 0, South - 0, Central - 1, Dover - 1, West - 0, Alvirne - 0, Pinkerton - 1.

That's 7 out of our 19 teams, with a total of 3 all-state players. This is what makes me disregard this list as a whole. South had Reed, Buckley, Maloney, and Christie who all could have made a team. Alvirne's Robbie Flohr had a great year for a team full of underclassmen. Central had Szelog, Poissant, and Lekkas who led this team to the few wins they had. Keene I understand, there was no "stud" but their centerfielder had to be one of the best fielders in the state. West of course went defeated, at 0-18, but Cody Bassett did hit over .300 for the Blue Knights.

It just amazes me that some kids don't get the recognition they deserve.
Hard to argue with any of the selections. Every year there are a number of players left off that are deserving of recognition, ( Joe Mcarthy last year comes to mind ). However, to dismiss this list because players are left off is a bit foolish. I could understand if players undeserving made the list, but how can you argue the validity of these lists. These players are, undoubtedly, the best players in the state. Does success bring with it the accolades, usually. That's just the way it happens with these lists. As far as the POY Hudon , I believe he is absolutely considered all state just not on the list as such. Last year Treff was also not on the list other than as POY. Not an easy job to come up with these lists and as a whole I feel the coaches do a pretty fair job of it.
There's always a few every year that people wonder about (either how they got there or who was missed)... In the end there is a bit of who takes who else's word for some players. If a specific player has a bad game against your team you may not vote for him (or her), while there are other players everyone knows and don't want to face so they get votes regardless. It's an imperfect system, but usually gets most of the right players. When it comes down to specific players - compare the position and make the honest assessment of overall performance against players in the same position.

I read the Alvirne coach's comment about his pitcher (Landry I think) and why wouldn't he get consideration especially since he dueled Hudon for 9 scoreless innings. I could see his point - what I don't know is whether he had that type of performance every time out. After that is - during the coaches meeting how much did the coach lobby for his player to be included... Still have that picture of the room full of coaches, chomping on cigars, having a few pops, and deciding which players should make the all star team.
Congratulations to all those selected! A great group of boys.

Just a quick point for those of you with the All-Snubbed team conversation, which I personally enjoy and it's great to hear about some of the other players who excelled this year that are not on the list.

It's not the responsibility of the other coaches to "get it right".

The one comment that read "Still doesn't make it right that the rest of the coaches thought it was ok to do that to a player." The coaches see each player one time or less in a year, it is the responsibility of each coach to show up to the meeting, be well prepared, bring stats and examples, nominate and advocate for their own player. It is absolutely not the responsibility of a coach from a different school to look out for a player he saw play one time this season.

Another observation the seven teams called out with 0 or 1 player on the list are also the bottom six teams in the standings and .500 Pinkerton.

Did West really go 0-18, how is that possible?
Shawn, as for West, their enrollment has been dropping steadily and are now under the 1250 cutoff for D1-D2. They are moving down to D2 next year and I would assume they would be much more competitive there. Bedford is moving up to D1, and I assume they will find it much more challenging being the smallest public school in D1 rather than the largest school in D2. Numbers do seem to make a difference in depth of pitching and position players.
It seems a little fish that Nasty Lefty is posting multiple times in different topics, both arguing about a certain player being better than another. That seems to me that this might either be the player or parent of said player posting.

unfortunately as was said in the previous posts the system is not perfect, i am in belief that no system is perfect. This should just be fuel for next year for the players that feel they were snubbed. Should be a great rest of the playoffs!
I totally agree with you Moneyball and Rvaughn, " Nasty" apparently loves Currier a ton, with Currier being a lefty and all. He had a great year, but Giampetruzzi pitched against MUCH tougher teams throughout the year. I don't think it's fair to say Giampetruzzi is not as good as Currier, considering that Giampetruzzi does throw harder and has more potential in his future.

Shawn, West was absolutely abysmal this year. I saw two of their games, one against Trinity and another against Memorial. Their four year varsity pitcher Clayton Welch pitched the Trinity game in which they lost 4-1. He pitched well, keeping them in the game but the defense was sub par and their bats were just as bad. In the Memorial game they threw sophomore Nolan Flynn who shut down the Crusaders, allowing only one earned run. Also their senior captain shortstop did not play after the Trinity game I heard. Looking at their schedule it seems they played competitively but their bats did not come alive until the end of the year. I'm sure the Bedford students leaving did make some type of impression on the sports programs (basketball and track being the only "winning" teams). Maybe in D2 their baseball team will fare a little better.
Yes, I am a fan of Currier's, Dylan Emerson, Dionne, the Concord guys, Trinity and all the Manchester teams from LL to Colt .. and yes.... I am fond of lefties too, LOL. Though both pitchers played against "equally" tough opponents during the year and both had very low era's, these two guys are two different style pitchers and by staying healthy and working hard ... will possibly provide a decent 1-2 punch for THS next season... providing Mr. Currier can stay away from diving into fences. Again, on behalf of everyone on this site, please accept my apologies for being "over the top" in yesterdays postings. Yours in baseball.
All-State teams are all political it seems to not mean anything if you make all-state anymore. If youre name is well known across the state youll get selected easy as that. and yes was awful this year, kinda sad as i am an alumni from there, but them going D2 next year maybe they'll do better and Bedford coming up should do fairly well against D1
TomD, Dont be crushed be realistic. Your team was 9 & 9. If you are happy with the year you had let it push you to improve next year. Viehoff was a horse for the Astro's & Lonergan pitched well also. What position do you play, Did you hit with power or drive in a lot of runs? Do you pitch? My advice to you would be let your play speak for itself, I would avoid this type of self promotion. Beleive me there are a lot of Players, Parents, Coaches & general fans that dont like some of the picks.
in the grand skeam of things. it isn't important who gets named to what. i know it is great for your family etc.to read your name on any list.

work hard to get better, keep very good grades in school. then the ultimitt payback..play in college.and maybe further. i promise you in 1 season no one will remember who was all state. i'm not trying to down play the list, but it really mostly matters to those not on it.
