My brother had a meeting with coaches before Christmas to discuss his role with the team. He was told that he had a great chance to play 60 games and saw him hitting later in the lineup at this point. Also, told him to work on defense while on break.

Any thoughts on what this means as far as plying time?

The coach did not say, "You're our (position). He said the player has a chance to play every.game. It sounds like he's a top sub who may start some midweek non conference games and maybe get into a conference game as a pinch hitter, pinch runner or defensive replacement. From a.preparation standpoint it means always being physically and mentally prepared to go into a game at any moment. How he responds in this environment.will determine his future. Another recruiting class comes in every year. Then there are JuCo recruits.

Thanks for the reply and seems logical. Without going into great detail, the position is open for a freshman(my brother and 1 more) so I don't think the coach would say  you're our(position) at this point.
