denis, I researched this for my son last summer and think there is a bit more to be explained. The NCAA regulates the tranfer rule initially and it is as you state. You are allowed a one time transfer after obtaining a release and are eligible under NCAA guidelines to play immediately at any other school. However there are a few conferences that legislate against interconference transfers and if you try and transfer from one school in a conference to another school in the same conference, you would not be eligible to play in year one. If you are transfering to a school that is not a member of a conference or if you are transfering to a school that is notwithin the previous schools conference then under the NCAA guidelines you are eligible immediately. If you are transfering to a school within the former school's conference, you then need to check if there is a conference rule.
