Just canvassing the group on what you think is a really good D2 football scholarship.  Yes I know it varies.  Some teams spread the 36 out among 60 kids and have a ton of walk ons.  Some try to give everybody at least a little something.   And some aren't even fully funded.  But I guess the question is from anyone's experience here what would be an amount that would wow you as an incoming freshman.   I am told 50 - 60% is rare as a freshman. Is that everyone's experience?   Does anyone know of a kid getting more?   Keep in mind a lot of people lie and I am talking FOOTBALL MONEY ONLY!   Not counting financial aid or academic money.  I don't want to keep going to a million places and playin one off against the other.  But I also want to make sure my son gets the best possible deal.  Any input is appreciated.  Thanks!

I only saw one D2 school in Wisconsin and here is info i found so that might give you a ball park and I believe this is average across all sports

4 Year Schools with Varsity     Avr Athletic Scholarship *   Annual Tuition & Fees Avr FA % of students
Sports teams  2017-18:CityState Division Men  Women   In-State  Out of State  Award **awarded FA

University of Wisconsin-ParksideKenoshaWI NCAA  II       4,063        5,729       7,367   15,356       1,7618%

Here is source of the info and you can search all 4 year schools.  I would think most D2 programs wont give a percentage but say we would give you $xxxx athletic money.  Good luck

Honestly, for a kid who was 6'5", 285, making a lot of D1 visits and expecting D1 offers back in October, I don't see how you would expect anything less than something close to a full ride for D2, particularly considering that D2 football has 36 equivalencies.  Give projected starters something close to full scholly, divvy up the rest to the next 15 - 25 and let the remainder walk on.  That would be my expectation of the norm.  Surely, a kid that size having had D1 looks would be a projected starter, right?

If I recall correctly (really not sure), you have emphasized getting the bulk of school paid for so surely you will be able to find a school that will do this if it is still the priority that it was.  Who cares whether it is combined athletic and other.  A buck is green and still worth a buck, no matter where it comes from.

We will get a lot of answers this June with camps.  I do expect he will get D1 offers especially if he waited through senior season.  But if you find a place that screams 'this is home' and it's a D2...   would you rather be some D1's 37th pick?   I know I have to be patient and just get through the next month.  But we have had some preliminary conversations with that D2.  He would for sure play there not sit.  And he would be a top guy rather than a roster filler.  And he loves the school and the atmosphere.  Yet kids are kind of programmed to make every effort for D1 first.  And I am really wondering if that's best.  Or just be happy and go where you are loved and where you love it also.

HECK of a lot of value in this, IMO.  And, if the thought that "he would for sure play there and not sit" is shared by all parties, there should be plenty of leverage for you to get close to what you need with financial support.

Of course, I do get the appeal if he gets enough love at a D1 to where he thinks he will be able to contribute at some point.
