Bball son season starts today.  I've been texting him and this morning he said he was so excited about it, he couldn't sleep last night!!!  I'm leaving in about an hour to head down to the school and watch 1st game tonight and a DH tomorrow.  I'm excited too!!  He's a freshman relief pitcher, so there is no way to know if he will get in, but it will be nice to watch some baseball after all this waiting.

Great thoughts and emotions.  This is what is is all about.  The nervous anticipation of what might be.  Post here when your son gets in.  I can assure you, good or bad, you'll never forget it.

My daughter's D-II team, UMSL, starts on Feb. 15th in the Tournament of Champions in Arizona.  I'm hoping that she will be able to play.  She was hit in the right hand by a line drive in practice and has a severe bone bruise.  She has been told she will be out 4 weeks.  This is day 3 today.  She and I are getting together tonight to begin the comeback with the aid of our trainer.  Wish us luck!

Good luck to all of the HSBBWeb Players and Parents.

JerseyDad, while I don't have a son, here is a link to my daughter's profile at her college:

bballman,

I was hanging out with BOF and his wife last night catching their son's opening game against Chapman (CA).  We were setting next to a Frosh parent that had flown in from Oregon to catch the series.  Like your son, his kid is a relief pitcher and had no idea if he'd throw this weekend?  Well, once the Trinity pitcher gave up his no-hitter in the 8th...wouldn't you know, the gentleman's son was inserted into the game.  It was fun to watch this dad try and play it cool ...BTW, his son did great.

Unfortunately, my son's team Delta State doesn't open until the 8th but I am glad to see things getting underway for other posters. It's that time of year again, finally! My wife and I will be leaving Thursday to catch the opening series. On the three preseason polls I have seen, Delta State is picked second, third, and sixth. Of course, that stuff means nothing without performance on the field. Good luck to all the DII parents and I may see some of you down the road.

Well, bballson got in the game!!!  1 inning. Gave up a single to 1st batter that they threw out trying to stretch a double, then pop up to left, then a single, and ended the inning with a strike out. Made it through!!!  Pitched to 9, 1, 2, 3 batters. Good to get things under way!!  Unfortunately, his team lost 8-3. DH tomorrow though.

That of course sounds thrilling

Great game for Jeff, way to go!

UTampa went down to Bentley in our home opener 5-3.  Bats never seemed to get going all at once for Tampa, and Bentley's right fielder clobbered with 5 RBI's (triple/Grand Salami).  We had the largest crowd I've ever seen at UT for any game (740+).

Backstop-17 jr gets his season going our 2nd game Saturday night behind the dish.  It was good to see some live baseball again, win or lose.

Nice to see son's freshman roommate Graham Ramos doing work at Lander.  I see lots of runs scored in that extra inning battle they had today.  Graham's uncle is former ML catcher and the catching/hitting coach for UTampa.

UTampa wins 6-0 over Bentley with the 4th 1-hitter in program history by 2 of our lefties.  Rubber match tomorrow afternoon.

We ended going to half of Arkansas-Monticello vs Tarleton and half of Abilene Christian vs Central Missouri games last night at Minute Maid park. It was really good for my 2015 to see what level of play was going on and how he measures up to them.

Glad you and your son were able to attend. It is never to early to start thinking about college. My advice is to attend college camps and games of schools your son thinks he made be intereted in attending. My son plays SS for Tarleton. We lost to the Boweevils, but bounced back to beat the Emporia State Hornets 2-0.

Swamp - thanks for noticing!  I'll post a bit about the weekend in the college thread...Here's the short version:

Scheduled for 3 game series - 1 Friday and DH Saturday

Saw 1+ games Saturday in nasty cold weather

Priceless!

My son's team travels to Arkansas for a 4 game series against Ouchita Baptist. I am a little worried about the forecasted rain. It is nearly impossible to make up canceled games with the non-conference teams. We need every game on our schedule to try to qualify for regionals. Unfortunately we have averaged between 2-5 canceled games each season due to the weather.

Well, not sure if I could be more nervous.  My son just called me and told me he is starting on Thursday!!  Against Tampa no less.  He called me and told me he is super nervous - 1st college start.  This will be his 4th outing.  First was an inning in which he did good.  2nd outing, he gave up 2 unearned in the first inning on a dropped popup with two outs runners on second & third, came out in the second inning, hit a guy and gave up a double and was taken out after a tounge lashing.  Both runners wound up scoring.  Third outing, one inning, 6 hits, 5 runs on 5 singles and a double.  Some positive to take from it as 3 of the 5 singles were just seeing eye barely through the infield, but not a great outing.  Now he's starting against the #4 DII team in the country - Yikes!!!

I'll be heading down to watch the game and try to be that parent in the stands acting like it is no big deal.  Inside, my guts will be churning.  Haha.  Wish Bballson luck!!

How exciting is that!  I'll definitely tune in to that game.  This is what it is all about!  See if you can meet Backstop-17 while you are down there as he is a great guy!

Thanks CD.  It is exciting, but my nerves will be tested sitting there in the stands.  I remember going through this when Sean pitched varsity his freshman year of high school.  I thought my nerves would have been calmer now with the past experience behind me, but, it's still there.  Maybe it will never go away.  Wonder if parents still get nervous when their son makes their MLB debut?

And yes, I have PM'd with Backstop-17.  He won't be there, a little long of a trip for one game.  I'll be looking for his son though.

Can't wait to get down there tomorrow.

bballman, I'm sure some parents still get nervous when their sons make their ML debuts. I sure would be. You will find as your son establishes himself more in the college game, and it might take until next year, that your nerves will calm down some. I still feel a little something every time my guy comes up at bat but it's more excitement than nerves. I look around in the stands and see some of the newer guys parents with very obviously fretful looks and I remember that I was the one sweating every play a few years ago. It will get better!

Yeah, I did get much better through HS.  I'm sure it's just the start of a new environment and wanting to see him do well and establish himself.  I'm already better than I was yesterday when he told me he was starting.  The excitement and nerves will be there tomorrow at 2:00 though.I just want him to do well.  Nothing I can do to make it better for him other than supporting him - good outcome or bad.  Go Cougars!!
