We are new to the hsbaseballweb family and hope we might get some insight on a few places looking at my son. He is class of 09, a strong student and a competitive baseball player. Grinnell has shown a fair amount of interest to date. We went to an athletes day and Coach Hollibaugh has followed up with phone calls several times. Carleton looks interested as well but we haven't yet had our visit. Finally despite some efforts to engage the coach at UChicago we haven't heard much from him. I am familiar with the education provided at all 3 places but not sure about the baseball experience. Any thought insights or help would be much appreciated.

Grinnell is the most expensive college in Iowa by far. It is very prestigious. I don't know much about the baseball program. It is a very preppy school with lots of kids from out east.

Another school you may want to look at is Wartburg located in Waverly, Iowa. It is the best D3 program in the state and it is a very good school. All of their facilities are brand new and they have won the Iowa Conference like 7 years in a row. Like all the Iowa D3 schools, it is a private college and it is also very expensive.

You couldn't go wrong with either school.
DePauw in Indiana would be worth a look.

Wisconsin has a number of high-level DIII programs, such as Wisconsin-Whitewater, WI-Stevens Point, WI-Stout, etc......

Macalester (MN) is one of the best academic schools in the country, with a well-liked baseball coach.

You are in the midst of many great DIII schools with solid baseball!!

Lots of great D 111 schools in the midwest with good baseball programs. U of Chicago is obviously one of the top academic schools in the country, so if you can get in there.......Their baseball team went to Japan last Spring for some games. Illinois Wesleyan is a great school with an outstanding baseball facility and field house. Coach Martel fields a very competitive team every year in the CCIW along with Augustana, Carthage and some others. No athletic money is given, but there is a decent amount of academic and need based funding available
If you don't mind staying in-state, Carthage is consistantly amoung the top 20 D3 teams in the country. At one point last season they were ranked #2. Very large (40-50 players) roster, though, with younger players typically playing JV schedule. Carthage plays in the CCIW (College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), one of the best D3 conferences in the country, with Augustana and Ill. Wesleyan also having been ranked in the top 20 teams.
