My son is had a bad diagnosis and missed his Freshman year never playing a game at D3. Now he is a Sophmore and got this diagnosis he needs TJ Surgery. Now since he never played in a game does his eligibility begin last year and he will only have 3 years left? Or does he still have all eligibility left? And he was pondering the idea of playing D1 as a Walk on. He was informed by his buddies he can't go D1 because there is no more walk ons. Poor kid was over looked and has this happen. Pop time at catcher was 1.85 and was pitching 89 avg. Any answers??

Eligibility rules are different for D1 compared to D2 and D3.
D1 allows 5 calendar years and 4 seasons of competition. D2 and D3 allow 10 full time semesters and 4 seasons.

Maybe he only only has 3 years left (or only 6 semesters in D3, if he has been enrolled full time), but he may be able to get a waiver. To get a waiver he must have missed two seasons due to season ending injury. Clearly TJ surgery means he will miss his sophomre year. If he couldn't play during his freshman year due to injury and a doctor provided that diagnosis last year (it has to be a doctor, not the team trainer) then that would be two years, and the college can ask for a waiver.
