If a freshman student attends a d3 school but decides to not play ( in hopes of being eligible next season as a sophomore at a d1 school) at that school will they be eligible to play the following year as a sophomore at a d1 school

If the player does not play at D3, they will have 4 years of eligibility left. They would play as a freshman at the D1.
This one is for 3FG or Rick to be certain, but I believe that he would be required to sit out one year.
Well, he's a freshman at a D3, so he hasn't received any athletic aid. If he also wasn't recruited to the D3, then 14.5.5.2.10.2 would allow him to play without sitting out, assuming he met all the other requirements for the one time transfer exception.
A player who wan't recruited to a D3, and skips a year of playing baseball, but who will make the 35 man roster at a D1 the following year? Seems like a rare individual to me.
Thanks 3FG I always appreciate your input. I have a question for the OP and 3FG. and would this change the scenario. This just happened at my sons school.
Did the player play, and practice with the team, in the Fall and then decide not to play the spring season? If so, even if he was not recruited by the D3, would playing and practicing in the fall count as a season and would he have to then sit out?
If he competes at the D3, he'll use a season of competition, but he still doesn't need to sit out a year.
