Beautiful campus. Top of the line academics. You can't do much better than a degree from Davidson. Don't know much about the baseball program other than they play in the Southern Conference, which is pretty decent competition. Davidson is generally toward the bottom of the conference in wins, primarily because they do not fully fund, if at all.
One of the very best of the small LA colleges, on a par with Williams in my opinion, but with the southern culture. The kids work VERRRY hard there, so be prepared! Won't get As, but the students are proud of that. And, be ready for professors to be very involved in the student's academic life and intellectual growth. Has a wonderful atmosphere for the right kid.

Over the years I have heard some concern about the rigorous grading system, esp for pre meds who are worried that they won't get the requisite GPA for med schools, or for students looking for prestigious post-grad fellowships (Fulbrights etc.) where high GPAs are needed.

I don't know anything about baseball there. Despite poor W/L records in most (all?) sports the kids are pretty proud of that, in a funny way.

If your student is a top scholar, he should look into the various academic scholarships. There is a pretty generous scholly program for scholar-athletes (which I believe is not counted as a sports scholarhip so that might be a way for a top recruit to get $$). I had a swimmer get one.
slotty,

Our neighbor is a pre-med freshmen pitcher at Davidson. His parents tell me that he loves it. It appears to be a great fit for him, and their situation. He has been given opportunities to play in competitive situations already as a freshmen. If top flight academics and competitive conference D1 baseball is your thing, then you can't go wrong with Davidson.

IMHO I thought the town was small but the campus appeared bigger than the 1.7K student population. Charlotte is close as well as some recreational lakes.
One of my son's high school teammates pitched there; and, like every other person I've ever known who went there, he loved it!

I've always felt that he had the best of both worlds: playing the sport he loves at the D1 level while getting a tremendous education. He's now in his first year as an attorney.

Best of luck to your son!
My son's team played there in 2009 and this year...my wife and I went both times...very nice campus in beautiful part of the country. Actually, the very first school that showed interest in him was Davidson..so I did a nominal amount of research (up to a certain point) a few years ago.
In my limited exposure, has a very small town feel..yet immediately off the interstate..many dining and lodging options nearby...surrounded by lakes..close to Charlotte and the mountains.
We know a pitcher who is a Senior at Davidson and Pre-Law major. He has mentored my son a bit and has told him that the academics are very very rigorous. This from someone that was in top 10% of a very large HS graduating class. It is a very small school and even though near Charlotte, far enough away that you feel fairly secluded(not always a good thing). It is ranked as one of the best Liberal Arts schools in the country. Also fairly pricey $47K per year.
This program has reached out recently to my son. While everything seems great from here in Texas, I found out how much it is. WOW. Even with multiple scholarships, it could be 10K out of pocket down from mid 30's plus. No thanks. I can find something about as good and much closer and much more economical...In this day and age, it's much more about the money to me. We will look at best options and go with that.
