The situation sucks and it’s frustrating. But the goal can be accomplished.

My son got injured the first game of post junior year summer. Based on his previous summer he expected early summer offers.

He tore up his knee. Then he fell down in rehab and separated his shoulder. He took his sling off a week before senior season started. He wasn’t in college prospect shape until the summer after senior year. He had to DH the first few weeks senior year.

He applied to a couple of colleges as a student that were interested in him as a baseball player. These were two schools he could get accepted without baseball. He had great grades and an above average SAT score. Both made offers in August for the following school year. He went in with five to play four and no baseball money the first year.

The plan was to play Legion instead of travel summer after senior year with the focus on getting back in prospect shape. Then showcase in the fall and start college in January. He advanced quickly physically. He received attention and offers off Legion post season play. His former travel coach contacted the two schools he had been accepted and promoted him. Both made offers. Then we had to deal with his passing on acceptance of his academic admission in the spring.

If a kid really wants it he’ll get there. The issue is a lot of kids will get discouraged and give up. But these kids would probably have trouble hacking the competition for playing time or roster spots.

I have a '22 as well and my assumption was that direct contact via phone, etc could begin on 9/1. I don't believe that has changed but again invite corrections.

The schools my son has talked with all say they're embracing the streaming format and will be watching showcases/tournaments that offer it. This is a VERY small sample size though (handful of schools).

Most have also said they expect the dead period to be extended to 1/1/21.

One difference with 9/1 for juniors this year will be official and unofficial visits (school arranged). No visits until this endless dead period ends.
