See what you think here...

A New York City high school girls basketball team mourning the death of its coach will not be able to play a scheduled game Thursday because their opposing team's administrators think more respect should be shown for their former leader.

The opposing president had no business making this unilateral determination, and was very disrespectful in what he said: "If they want to prove to the world that a basketball game is more important than the death of their coach, let them go right ahead."

Given the issue, there should have been dialogue between the leadership, not insults hurled from the head of one school towards the players and staff of another.

Besides, how many times have we seen a similar situation, and the teams play because it was what the decedent would have wanted?
Call me a simpleton, but I simply can't understand why the need to "got out and play" quickly is important in the grand scheme of things.

Nothing about respective faiths, but why not let the kids have some time to deal with the loss of their coach. Re-schedule it next week or the week after or on an odd Saturday. Let someone set up a memorial, raise some funds for a charity in the name of their coach, advertise the game and get a big turn out, charge admission, get some sponsors. Let the kids feel like they did something positive in the spite of a tradgedy...
