Most of us have heard of the "Shot heard around the world", but did you know what may have set up that situation?

The situation was bottom of the ninth with runners at second and third with one out and the Dodgers ahead 4-2. Chuck Dressen calls time and goes to talk with Don Newcombe and decides to make a pitching change. Dressen has Carl Erskine, Clem Labine and Ralph Branca in the pen. Dressen decided to go with Branca. Under most circumstances probably not a bad choice.

Here's the kicker. Branca did not do well against the Giants. He had already been beaten 6 times by the Giants that year and had already given up a homer to Thompson in the first game of this playoff series. Just a little food for thought here.
