This is obviously a great and deserving honor for Nick. He has been one of the Angels top prospects for some time now.

For those that might not know, Nick had his MLB debut last year with the Angels. He also got his first of what we all hope will be many Major League wins in 2008.

He has earned everything he has received. He was arguably the top HS pitcher in his draft class and hurt his arm before the draft. The Angels still drafted and signed him for a nice sized bonus, but that injury cost him a lot of money at the time. I hope it all works out for him in the end. And for the Angels, too!

None of which would have been possible without good old "deldad"! Smile
I had the pleasure of watching Nick pitch a AAA game in Portland last spring, sitting next to DelDad's delightful wife and brother-in-law.

After watching him allow I think 5 hits over 7 or 8 innings, I left the park pretty darn sure he'd be in the show for good before too long.

This is probably the year. Congrats Janet, DelDad and Nick!
It seems like yesterday a good friend of mine called and said "You got to come to our tourney this weekend there is a bigtime pitcher on one of the teams you got to see." Turns out it was Nick. He signed with UNC and we were heart broken when he opted for the draft but didnt blame him one bit. Man do the years fly by. I am so happy for him and his family. I hope he has a terrific season and a long career in the bigs. It simply couldnt happen to nicer folks thats for sure! Congrats

Thanks everyone. It's funny the closer he gets the farther away it seems. Can't wait for spring training.

Great stuff. For all of us parents, the lesson here is it never gets easy, even when your son is appearing on the front page of BA.
I wonder if Greg Maddux's parents were nervous watching him retire yesterday, and if they'll be anxiously waiting for the next 5 years.
Hope springs eternal...

Continued success to Nick, and big congrats to deldad.
