I picked up a DeMarini bat at a yard sale, my guess it is $200 new.

My kid used it and laid into a batting practice pitch, but no "ping" like the usual aluminum bat, more of a thud, like he was hitting with a 2x4 piece of lumber.

Is that right, or is the bat damaged?

Thanks.

In my experience Demarini aluminum bats typically have a "deeper" sound than other brands. Whether this is more like a "wood" sound could be debated but as long as the performance is acceptable then I wouldn't be worried. We've had good luck with Demarini but that being said my son has worn out a Voodoo to the point that even I was convinced it was dead. It did take about a season and a half of pretty constant use though.
