oldman-

Just my opinion is all.

I disagree, he has the right to be a part of the organization. Playing time is not a Right.

They could bench him if they wanted to.  Are you saying he is innocent, no one really thinks that do they?

I am one of those crazy people that think an organization should not play guys that are cheaters.  Not just the Yankees, all organizations.

It is flat out disrespectfull to all the players who play the game clean.

All of these guys that have cheated and lied about it repeatedly are in my book garbage and the teams should not wait on the league to take action.  They can take action and bench these guys.

Have they suspended the other MLB pitchers who intentionally hit a batter this year?

Getting hit by a pitch happens all the time, why is everyone so very much up in arms over arod getting plunked on the arm? What about Strasburg, Wood and Avilan? I can't tell they were suspended. Other than the Yankees throwing a fit, what makes this so different?   I'm seriously asking, I don't know.

Major League Baseball announced the suspension via a news release Tuesday afternoon, citing that the suspension and undisclosed fine was for "intentionally throwing at and hitting Alex Rodriguez with a pitch in the top of the second inning of Sunday night's game at Fenway Park."

Is this tantamount to saying the ump erred by not ejecting Dempster after the HBP?

All - Yes, that is a fair penalty for intentionally throwing at somebody.  I've got no problem with it.  I'm just glad one of our good pitchers wasn't stupid enough to do it.

Green Light - I think MLB is saying exactly that.  This ump missed the call, but MLB is correcting the ump.

No, they are not.......

The rule provides the umpire these choices based on his judgment....

If, in the umpire’s judgment, such a violation occurs, the umpire may elect either to:

1. Expel the pitcher, or the manager and the pitcher, from the game, or

2. may warn the pitcher and the manager of both teams that another such pitch

will result in the immediate expulsion of that pitcher (or a replacement) and

the manager.

If, in the umpire’s judgment, circumstances warrant, both teams may be officially

“warned” prior to the game or at any time during the game.

here is what the league is doing....its at the end of the rule......

(League Presidents may take additional action under authority provided in Rule

9.05)

The umpire ruling was within his judgement based on the choices the rule book gave him.

Now there is always a group of people who want to put this on the back of the umpire.....when this occurs, if you throw the pitcher out immediately without a warning there will be a group who condemns the umpire for over stepping your bounds or trying to , and I have yet to find a coach or pitcher after an ejection for throwing at a batter who didn't try and say "it just slipped" .....

If we warn both teams, you get grief for not "letting them play" or "let them settle it" on the field or over stepping..... and I understand that by warning both teams you have effectively stopped the one team from retaliating and making it equal......but the goal is to stop it...

And i really don't have a problem with that, if I feel that that the pitcher definitely or deliberately threw at a player, Ill toss him, if i don't, I warn both teams...........because I don't have a league president or commissioner to institute additional action....

JH After reading that all I come away with is that all they are saying is !-they will not disclose because of the seal. 2-That some nutritional supplaments will trigger a positive in 2003. YES WOULD! As a gym rat I can tell you that pro-hormones were available over the counter and are a steroid precursor. That is why they were later banned. They act just a step below steroids. And steroids were and still are NOT ILLEGAL! They are just illegal without a prescription. So whether Ortiz or whoever used an over the counter it is the same thing! That's what got Mark in trouble. That's why pro-hormones were included along with other steroids after the 2003 season. So if he used them he USED! 3-Half of the duo in that article, Manny, tested positive, what twice? Where there is enough smoke like that there is fire!

Entitled to your opinion. But would you have played Gaylord Perry? Should the Rangers bench Cruz? How about all who have used in the past and are still playing? Why don't we just shoot them. Would that satisfy you? Next time someone is suspended for ANYTHING and appeals lets just bench him until it is resolved. Have you personally seen this evidence or are you drawing conclusions based on 'reports'? Let it play out. How about all the guys you rooted for as a kid? Care to wager how many used greenies or their equal? Remember, in the time frame of his admittance to using it was not a banable offense. Plain and simple. After that time frame it is. If there is a positive test or equal evidence then he is toast. Untill then everyone should just cool their jets.

I fully understand your point.  I am just frustrated with what appears to be a complete lack of integrity in the game.  I know my opinion was unrealistic.

I don't want to shoot anyone, I just want for these guys to serve the suspension they are handed out when they know that they are guilty.

Man up, take responsibility for your actions. Unfortunately the money they stand to lose is so big that it is unrealistic to think they would do that.

As for the topic of this post, Dempster I think was doing what we who have served in the military would call policing our own. He was sending a message to A-Rod that he does not appreciate him making a mockery of the game.

I don't like or agree with how he did it, but I can understand his thinking.

If not already mentioned, they had changed the rotation and he would have not missed a start anyway. Not sure what message that sends, does that mean that everyone can throw a pitch at him now?  Yes, they are upset he snitched.

Dempster claimed he was mad at AROD for ignoring him at an event. Come on man, MAN UP to the real reason, everyone!

This thing is so out of control, now reports are that Cashman's mistress has hired the same attorney as AROD and claims that she can tell all how Cashman told her they would do anything to get rid of him.

I find the whole thing sickening.

Au contraire mon ami.  This is just getting interesting.  ARod better buy a law firm otherwise he is going to be paying multiple law firms to represent him on multiple fronts.  I'll bet Joe Torre is enjoying this.

It's distracting from the game, as well as to the players who have done nothing to get caught up in this mess.

IMO it's a zoo.

IMO what you now have going on is the "wild west" mentality. Don't like the rules that the MLBPA has in place and take matters into your own hands. MLB suspension is 5 games and Dempster is not scheduled to pitch for 7. Nice suspension...

Mean while, the Yankees keep on winning... And even us Yankee fans don't like what is happening.

Very interesting that Arods suspension has been reduced! Could it be that MLB really doesn't have what they say they have on him? Maybe they just want this to go away and not go to an arbiter because they could lose it on flimsy evidence? The plot thickens and god only knows what dirt will pop up next. Maybe MLB better get all of their ducks in a row before they start things like this. And a little backbone wouldn't hurt. If you make a decision stand by it, waffling just causes doubt and now doubt is there.

Fenway - thanks for the links

The SI one is truly revealing. The one thing not being said:  arod is innocent of the charges.  So ...  since we can't say that, let's smear everyone else. otoh, the mlb, the Yankees, the Yankee's doctor etc may take exception to being bullied (at the least, slandered possibly) so not surprising they are toning down the rhetoric.

At this point, I would think most everyone wants him out of baseball. I just wonder how they will achieve it. I understand the commissioner's office has the ability to dismiss/suspend players if they are hurting the game of baseball.... if this isn't giving baseball a black eye, (or a red face of embarrassment) what does?

Maybe they can do that but they can't void his contract.  Yankees owe him big money even if he doesn't play.  Heck, the Rangers still owe him something like ~$40m of deferred money.
