Played at Spring Arbor College (now University) for legendary NAIA coach Hank Burbridge. Then spent 3 years in the minors. Son is only 5....but scouts project him as a middle infielder, since he's a bit short right now!!!!!!!
I played at an NAIA school (Siena Heights University) as well, against Spring Arbor and Coach Burbridge, who became a great friend and mentor during my years as the Siena Heights coach.
My son was graduating from high school while I was still coaching there, and since he didn't like the coach and he was being recruited by several Division I schools, he did not play for me at my alma mater! And then I 'retired' anyway, and now I get to see most of his games!
Went out for the team at Santa Monica JC just after turning 17 and was cut after having thrown a lot of batting practice. Can't complain, nothing unfair about it. Joined the service about a year later and took up tennis when I realized I wouldn't be able to continue playing baseball in the service. Ended up playing tennis for UCSB after playing #1 at Cabrillo JC.
I played at University of Santo Domingo from 1966 to 68, my elder son played at Essex CC in Baltimore, my second son played at Barry University, and my youngest is playing in the minors for the Mets.
