USC has man on 2nd with two outs. Batter hits line drive right at center fielder but rather short.

Center fielder sprints in, dives forward, appears to catch the ball, but it comes loose when he hits the ground. Batter gets single (credited with hit) and runner from 2nd scores.

Next batter comes up and gets a pitch thrown to him. THEN, the third base umpire decides that the center fielder really did catch the ball and overrules the play two pitches before.

HUH? Can you change plays that have already happened? USC coach got thrown out of the game, with good reason.

Yea, I saw that and was amazed that they overturned the original call. The player had the "snowcone" and it popped out after hitting the ground, no catch! This is not football.

Also, is there a racial divide? The guest they (ESPN2 during the USC/Southern game) had on (former african-american baseball player), sorry, forgot his name, said "and they have only 2 black players" before getting cut-off and going to commercial. Then when they came back, they didn't pick back up on his comments. But he was basically saying that one of the problems is that you have a team like USC with only 2 african-american players. So one person watching the game at a sports-bar posed the question, "well you know who he is rooting for" when Southern mounted a comeback against USC. And a blog said, "well the USC coach doesn't recruit black players and I'm glad he got thrown out of the game". Now keep in mind, bloggers can go way out of line with comments because they can hide behind the interenet, but some comments like this are made out in the open and cause major tension as was the case with the comments made at a sports-bar.

Switchhitter- interestingly, the issue of the racial composition of the teams in this "tournament" was addressed in an article in the LA Times, but a much different "take".

Southern and Bethuane-Cookman are historically "Black" Universities but the vast majority of their current rosters is Latin players. The point of the article being the lack of African-American players throughout college baseball, even at what are historically viewed as "Black" Universities.

Quite typically far too many college teams have no African-American players on their roster and the issues behind that seem many and hotly debated, but never have I heard it to be an issue of exclusion on the part of any school.

I watched part of this game and didn't hear this particular comment but, I am an SC alum and people can say what they want about the Trojans but racial prejudice in their athletic recruiting is one I have NEVER heard. Any such comment by that announcer is ridiculous but, the absence of African-American players in college baseball in general is clearly true. All the reasons .

In defense of the guest in the booth, he never was asked to continue where he left off after they came back from commerical....but what he definetly started to say was "And the one team has only 2 black players and """BAM""" they had to cut him off and go to commerical..it was a legitimate commercial break,,,they didn't cut him off on purpose. We may never know what he was going to say and it may not have been a slam against USC.
