What are the different types of workouts done at different times of year? When is ideal time to gain muscle (bulk), and when is ideal time to build muscle endurance?

Do you alternate in the same week? Sorry for being a little general but all info is appreciated. If you don't mind, please explain WHY you believe you are right.
