Can anybody tell me what the major differences are between the Partiot League and the Ivy league in regard to level of play, number of games per season, admissions criteria, difficult majors, scholarship/need based aid etc.

I'd say level of play is comparable, some years one league is up, other years it's the other league.
Websites have a wealth of information on some of the factual stuff you asked.
Beyond that, any specific insights you are looking for? Two of the Patriot schools give full scholys, as you probably know.
We visited quite a few in both conferences.
IMHO - I don't think you'll find any major differences between the two in terms of baseball. Conference RPIs are historically similar. They play the same number of conferernce games (20), but Patriot teams did play slightly more total games. Both conferences offer need based financial aid for baseball. However, Army and Navy offer a special financial package & "post graduate on the job training package" that no one can match! I think you'll find more than adequate facilities at all schools. Some have on campus fields (Army, Brown, Cornell, Bucknell, Dartmouth, Holy Cross, Princeton, Penn) and some have off campus fields (Harvard, Lafayette, Yale, Columbia). My son was clearly in favor of on-campus fields.
As for academics, I think each school has it own pros and cons depending on your son's interest. Admissions rates will be lower in the Ivy schools overall, although all schools are exceptional. You can use college navigator to compare schools. http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/. Alumni networks at all schools is very robust.
Thank you for the information Fenway and Green Light!
