To make a very long story short, my son had to transfer to another school (and move to another city) in the middle of his senior year in order to continue to play - he missed baseball (except for continuing to work out) all of his junior year, even after winning the coaches award his sophmore year, and receiving recognition from the coaches on hard work and attitude. It was a big shock, and unexpected when he was cut his junior year.

He made the hard decision to go somewhere else to play, for a coach who saw potential, and ended up signing D1 on a full ride for a good program, and a great coach.

This decision was not made easily, and it has been a really rough year for all of us,but in the end my son was determined, and has the character to accomplish his dreams, even though the road was not an easy one.

I wanted to post this for all of the kids/parents who are having a rough time. There was a point when we really though baseball was over, and even though I could deal with that, (my son has very good academics on top of it, and could have gone to college -any college- on just that) my son was devastated.

When he wanted to move just to play ball, I thought he was crazy, but I made the decision to support him, because this is his dream, and I had to give him the chance to make it come true. I know that later on in life, I didn't want to be the reason he didn't try to follow his dream. Don't ever take one coaches determination as your destiny. If you have a mountain in your way don't try to bulldoze through it, go around it. The road may be longer, and a little rougher, but you will still get to your destination.

Thank you to all of the coaches who did tell us to keep trying, especially to the coach who gave him the opportunity - no matter what, you allowed a young man to try to follow his life's dream, and for that, we will always be grateful. Thank you to our family in the other city Smile Thank you God! I know that when we used to read posts on this site that were similiar to this, we would be encouraged, so the only reason I am posting this, is that I hope that in some small way this will encourage someone who needs it right now.

Good Luck in all of your endeavors, baseball and otherwise Smile

A full athletic baseball scholarship at a Division one college is a rarity. But to have a player receive a full ride that was "cut" from the baseball team his junior year of high school, which is probably the year that garners the most attention from college recruiters, is almost a miracle! WOW! Congratulations!

Fresh...congrats on the perserverance! for the satisfaction of a question that has arisen in my mind (and probably Fungo's Wink)...was the large portion of the "full ride" probably due to academics? In the end there's no real difference in how the money is obtained, but the inference that some might get is that it was all obtained for the baseball, which is usually reserved for the very exceptional players. Thank you for the congrads! We are so grateful.

Yes, sorry I wasn't more specific above- should have been, didn't mean to be misleading, but the largest portion of the scholarship was from academics. I would encourage all ballplayers to stay on top of that, because there are many, many kids who can play ball. You want to present the most attractive package - that means grades, attitude, and work ethic as well as talent. Smile

thanks again!
