Dinwidde got a measure of revenge at Matoaca last night, beat the Warroirs 6-5 in 10 innings. The rematch was even more dramatic and exciting than the first go round.
With Dinwidde up 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th, Travis Lodge led off the with long home run off Dinwidde reliever Colton Gunn.
Both relivers, AJ Moore for Matoaca and Gunn were dominant for in the 8th and 9th. However IMHO, the outcome was changed in the 9th when Dinwidde Sophomore (and fellow RISE Baseball teammate of my son) O'Neal Shell made a Willie Mays-esque over the shoulder basket catch of a Brandon Traylor drive to deep right center. If that drops, Traylor is on 3rd with 1 out and the top of the order at the plate. Probably game over.
In the 10th, after a hit and intentional walk of Daniel Brdigeman. Pucket from Dinwidde hit a deep homer to left center to make it 6-3. In the bottom half after Bryan Andrews was HBP to lead off the inning Michael Birdsong singled to center that went under Shell's glove scoring Andrews and leaving Bird at 3rd base. Bird scored on a groundout, making in 6-5. The second out of the inning was recorded on a sliding catch after a long run of a looping flyball at the left field line taking away extra bases from AJ Moore. Game ended on a weak groundball.
Tremdous game, obviously both teams are very equally matched. If both win Tuesday, there will be a playoff game for the Central District championship.
