For the first time ever, sophomore son RHP is experiencing some discomfort. It's at the very back of the arm, just above the elbow joint (triceps brachii), where the triceps connect to the joint.

I've told him he will have to tell the coach he needs to rest it for about a week, no throwing. We're a little limited on doctors over here, so don't have the option of getting an MRI through a sports doc or any such luxury. At least it's not in the classic Tommy John areas.

When he's pitching, it's fine - then dull-aches when bullpen is done. Ice alleviates the ache in about 20 minutes. Just guessing, but seems like it's probably some form of tendonitis. I just haven't heard/read of a lot of pitcher arm problems at that location on the arm. I think he stressed it lifting weights, actually.
It is very annoying as he's the top guy this year and Game #1 is just over a week away......

The best I've been able to do is take him to a Korean acupuncturist who also uses ultrasonic waves on the area. It';s getting better, but I want it to go way and never return!!

Your son could have muscle strain. Tendonitis can usually be diagnosed when pressure is directly applied to the tendon, revealing the sharp pain (as told by orthopedic doctor). Rest would most likely be your best bet. After pitching, I usually go through a cycle of icing and heating, but I'm also trying aerobic exercising (jogging) after pitching. Hope some of this helps.

Yeah, the ice, heat, ice was a method that I have heard about online. It relieves the soreness, then flushes out the lactic acids, and then I think helps out with the soreness again. Usually 20 minutes for each works for me. No need in buying the expensive arm wraps, bag of frozen vegetables works wonders.
