District MVP's

In 10-5A:

The best hitter was Travis Sample - Lake Highlands (10 HR, 400+ avg, UTA Signee).

The best pitcher was either Claiborne (Newman Smith) or Pittman (Lake Highlands)...

You HAVE to take into consideration the politics that goes on at these All- District meetings. "I'll vote for your guy here if you vote for my guy here." "We don't like this kid. Let's not get him on the AD team. People can say this does not happen but it does, and every year some player falls prey to such a thing. A kid my son played summer ball with last year did not make the all district team, yet later either that week or the next committed to a D1 school as a junior. Also, the stats that the coach walks in with probably aren't all legit. I'm sure some teams keep good books, but others I'm sure don't know what reached by an error means. Or my personal favorite, the fielder's choice where no one made an out so automatically that must be a hit, right!?!?

Gunreader or anyone: ...The above happens, and it's a fc for the batter but an error for the fielder. Does this count favorably towards the batter's on-base percentage?

No. Improving one's OB% requires a hit, BB, or HBP. And a sacrifice fly counts as an AB towards OB% (negatively) but not BA.

I agree that Russo has had an excellent year. My vote for MVP would go to Shepherd.

Thought I'd jump in the discussion here. It's a slow morning in the FD house!

Here are my predictions for 5-5A:

MVP - Reid or Kreder
I love both of these young men and think either would be a worthy selection. Monk has been great all year and has no bigger fan than me. However, my guess is that Chase will probably get the nod because of what he provided for Southlake in terms of pitching (totally dominating except against Keller and was the Dragons 4 hole hitter with great stats +.400 avg). Factor that in with Southlake's overall inexperience (no returning starters) and lowered expecations, it would be tough to vote against him.

OPOY - Lawson or Kreder (if not selected MVP)
DPOY - Knight (the best fielding SS I've seen since Paul Kelley)
POY - Stafford or Reid (if not selected MVP)
Newcomer - Merck or Thorpe
Coach - Hughes (remarkable job with an inexperienced group although my heart would vote for Stramp. Plus, never count out McCune in an upset ).

Following PD's format, here's my breakdown by position and school:

P - 2 from C'Ville
1 from Ryan
1 from Richland
1 from Southlake
C - 1 from Ryan (assuming Monk wins a superlative award)
1B - 1 from Keller
1 from Grapevine
2B - 1 from Southlake (assuming Lawson gets OPOY)
SS - 1 from Ridge (assuming Knight gets DPOY)
3B - 1 from Haltom
UT - 1 from Ryan or Richland
OF - 1 from Keller
1 from Ryan
1 from C'Ville
1 from Souhtlake

Factor in all the politics that goes into the makeup of the team and I could be way off. But it's fun to speculate.

You could be right. Nothing would surprise me. I tried to look at it like this. There were 4 teams clearly at the top half of the district and 4 in the bottom half. One would assume the top teams would have the largest representation although previous years selections didn't pan out that way.

My 1st team spread looks like this:

Keller - 4 or 5
Southlake - 4
Colleyville - 4 or 5
Ryan - 4 or 5
Grapevine - 1
Haltom - 1
Fossil Ridge - 1
Richland - 1 or 2

I think Colleyville will be well represented with 1st and 2nd team AD selections. One thing you can count on, unfortunately some deserving players will be overlooked or selected for 2nd team when they could have/should have been on the 1st team.

Let's hope we don't know for a LONG time because that means teams from 5-5A will have enjoyed a long playoff run.

My 5-5A 1st team- after seeing every team face the Panthers in a hard fought wonderful district these are my predictions, what a great regular season there are many guys that deserve honors...

3B- Combest HH (good Off numbers)

C- Hubbard DR or Kreder KH
P- Reid SLC, Stafford KH, Burkhart DR, Lane CH, Deleo CH, Green SLC
OF- Medlin KH, Presley SLC, Rainey DR, Deleo CH (if he's not honored as a P) Ferguson GH
UT- Alvarado HH, Fawcett GH

Overall Honors- I know these guys cant recieve both but here are my predictions-
POY- Reid SLC or Stafford
DPOY- Knight DR, Presley SLC, Kreder KH
Newcomer- Thorpe CH, Merck KH
OPOY- Lawson CH or Kreder or Headley GH
MVP- Lawson CH or Reid SLC
COY- Stramp KH
