When we call in stats, the people at the paper usually tell us where they will be cutting off at in regards to say...batting average. I usually don't report anyone over .350 unless they have alot of something else like runs scored, SB, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI. For instance, I have a kid that has 36 SB this year. He is our "courtesy runner," so when I call in, all I report on him is SB and runs scored. The kid is like 0 for 5 this year, but he loves his role, loves seeing his name in the paper. I started him in a non-district game a few weeks back and he told me he'd rather not play, just run the bases because he hasn't hit the ball well. He really wanted to pad his "stat." Anyway, I don't know if that is relavent, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

Screwball, I can't speak for your coach, but that is what I have experienced in my 12 years as a head baseball coach.
thanks for the response. when i look at the individual schools team stats I see most schools apparently listing everyone, buck 25 or not. however, our stats person compiled to information for our coach and sent it to the DMN. This was for the entire team. The next day, the coach told the our stats person that we couldn't list all the players due to "Privacy Laws" and he needed to contact the DMN and delete all but five players. The kids even asked the coach during practice why everyone was not listed and he told them it was because of privacy laws. they pointed out that other schools list everyone and he said they were doing it wrong.

i guess the five that remained for Lamar are not subject to the "Privacy Laws"???

Panther Dad, i am not complaining because my son is not listed. He happens to be hitting very well. i am complaining because this is just not right. my son is already set to play college ball at one of the best academic schools in the nation. I am just tired of this coach treating his players like this.
screwball,

I'll be honest, I don't really know how the DMN is doing their stats. They change their format much more frequently than the FWST. When I called mine in last Sunday, I asked the guy if he wanted my top hitters and he said yes. If they want the entire roster, I'll email them the whole thing, all 21 players that have appeared in a varsity game.

FWST only wants top hitters and high stat guys for their leaderboard.

PD, Tiger High is winning the close games. Lane has pitched well for them. More importantly, the rest of the staff has given them the opportunity to win the other games. We play them tonight for the first time, even though we begin the 2nd half of district play...weird quirk in the schedule due to conflicting TAKS dates. We will see Lane tonight and they will see our 5-0 sophomore lefty. Our #1 should be able to start our Tuesday game, it will be is first since March 7. If we can get his bat back in the line-up, we might be able to make a run at those Tigers in the 2nd half. I have not seen Coach Collins in while. Is he still making that ridiculous commute?
thats ok pd. i just wanted to make sure all understands it is not because my kid is not one of the chosen five. i guess i'm really naive, but i just think coaches should do what is right whenever possible. and this is one case where it would be so easy to do it. let all the boys see their names listed regardless of what their stats are. the DMN parses out the ones with few at bats and low averages when they sort them into their leader categories. so what is wrong with showing everyone. then by telling the boys it is against the privacy laws to show "everyone" is just an insult to their intellegence.
cobra

i was referring to what is right for a person. i have learned that this rule does not apply to some coaches.

is it right, by any standard, to tell the boys you are not reporting them because of privacy rules instead of being man enough to tell them he is only reporting the top five?

if you guys in colleyville are ok with that then fine, ignore my post. in our district we are the only school not reporting all players.

i have checked several others in other districts and they are reporting all players.
