BOFJr - Freshman pitcher in second week of practice and said he felt he is actually loosing some velocity on his fastball. Have not put a gun on him so don't really know for sure just his impression. He did say that his command has never been better and that he can really locate well. I know he is not overthrowing as he has only done around 5 pens and 2 scrimmage innings in the past two weeks.

Is it usual for HS players to go through a "dead arm" period? If so what is the cycle period and when do they typically see the "life" come back.

Since he is in new territory of throwing every day I am curious what others have experienced.

He may not have lost any velocity but arm may be looser and that is, IMO, the ultimate object, not to feel like you are throwing hard. If he is locating his spots well and in command, don't worry about any issues.
Last year the pitching coach told son he thought he was throwing close to 94, son said no way, he felt like it was 90-91, they went to get the gun and coach was right.
