It is just a sad situaton that most of us are used to Doc getting into trouble with the law. All anyone can do is pray for this man because he has serious problems that at this point in his life he cannot deal with;.
It is sad because Dwight Gooden was such a good pitcher in his day and his life has to go down this road. It seems that it is inevitable these days that some people can't stay on the good track.
Sorry doesn't get it. Doc Gooden is an adult, has been giving chance after chance after chance to straighten up his act and he "chooses" to take drugs.
It is time to stop this stuff, and get Gooden to accept responsibility for his behavior.
Of course his trek down this road has continually been excused by the MLBPA everytime they negotiate a new union contract that makes excuses for players drug usage.
For "money" and insurance reasons the lawyers and psychologist have been working with the pharmaceutical companies to get drug addiction categorized as a sickness, mental disorder, etc.
This has kept everyone getting large fees and the judicial system busy expanding its jurisdiction over more and more aspects of abased human behavior.
Doc Gooden is a product of his time. The 60's generation made taking drugs part of the entertainment choices, like the saying if it feels good do it, and ***, drugs, rock and roll. He has been one of those that has reaped the worldwind as he sank deeper and deeper into dependency.
The results have been devastating to him, his family and those that respected him for his talent.
Most of all baseball is a lot worse off when one of its own suffers this kind of outcome.
I would, beacuse if you are not responsible enough to live daily life, then why should your accolades be put in an illustrius division? How's that for vocab?
As a result of his choices, not only has he made a mess of his own life, but his sons as well. His oldest son has had several run ins with the law regarding drugs. Enough excuses--we must all take responsibility for our own actions, regardless of our profession. I wonder if you would feel 'sad' if Gooden was a garbage man?
