Just throwing it out there. I am sure many readers have boys that play JV. Would be nice to know which teams are doing well and kinda get thoughts on whether it really matters.
I can speak only on the teams I have seen. Seems that North and Londonderry have been our toughest foes. (I am from Salem ) We had a pretty good game against Pinkerton the other day. How many teams have varsity players that bounce up and down ?
Salem has gotten off to a great start, a record of 11-2. The boys have been hitting the ball and the starting pitching has been exceptional. I don't like to mention names on here , I was just wondering if there was anywhere records were posted so we could know who we were playing.

I can speak for Nashua North as my son is a freshman who also plays for the JV. North is primarily made up of sophomores as there is only 1 Junior on the roster and he is a relief pitcher. There are 3 freshman who play up to JV often 2 pitchers and a hitter. We have one Varsity starter who occasionally will play for JV when the game times are staggered (4pm and 7pm). There are 5 JV players that will dress for Varsity when the games are not at the same time.

Our record is 12-1 with the only loss coming against Londonderry in the season opener.

North's baseball program's combined record right now is 30-4. Varsity is 10-3, JV is 12-1 and freshman are 8-0. North only graduates 4 seniors this year as well so you'd think they should be strong for another couple of years.
I'm currently doing my coaching internship with Albion's JV Team in NY. We are 13-0 so far this season and so is the Varsity program.

To be honest, it seems like JV baseball is place don the back burner. We play in a weak league so any team we play, their good players are already up on Varsity. It's shown because in our 10 league games so far, we are outscoring opponents 204 to 40 with an average score of 20.4 to 4.. There is no competition at all..
I would say that for many programs JV is mainly for preparing players for Varsity, kind of like AAA is for the major leagues.

Now the players and coaches at JV (and freshman for those who have such programs)do care about how they do. They will play to win with the players they have available.

At North I know they try to plan out the pitching situation for the week especially for the kids who play JV and Varsity and (like my son) freshman and JV. To use my son as an example he may pitch 2-3 innings in relief early in the week for JV and then start a game for Freshman later in the week or vice versa. That way the pitchers are getting in their innings for development while helping each team.

Hey I like the idea of getting some discussion on jv games. Kind like a farm report. I took in a jv game a week ago saw Souhegan play really liked the Brill and Bennett kids, bright futures for both. I know Bennett, any got info on Brill? Football player? Grade?

I heard Brill turned in his gear two days ago...too bad, he's the type of kid that needs the distraction of playing a sport. Bennett is a solid baseball player...has been for a long time and is a great kid. I think he'll have a lot to give the Varsity at Souhegan next year.
