I really think Cosby wins it if they get to final. Their bats are live and they play top notch defense and if Mooney pitches in the final I see them bringing the title back to Chestefield.

Disagree that Western Branch is built around their #1 pitcher. Western Branch is a team with everyone contributing at some point. And, fortunately, when one is not having a stellar game, another steps it up. E.g., look at the 12-inning Menchville / WB game in the Eastern Regionals. That was pitched by Johnsonbaugh and Eisenhower; Menchville scored only 1 run. The hitters who carried the game were Barefoot and Cassidy with 3 hits apiece. Based on what I see it seems WS has a dominating picher that could be available Saturday but they may have their hads full Friday with WB -


Woodbridge is the only unbeaten team in this thing..that must mean something. You don't run the table without being good - hard to go wire to wire without a loss

Some people I know that saw the Cosby/Glouchester game said Cosby seemed to be hitting on all cylinders

Does Cosby's pitcher play a position when he isnt pitching?

Friday becomes a battle of who has the best #2 pitcher and can put runs on the board

Thats impressive WB...SOunds like WB could be the team to beat with so my who can contribute and depth.
I have not seen too many of the teams play and am just wondering how they all match up-
I am familiar with that Matoaca team WB beat.

WS also seems to be peaking at the right time, getting contributions throughout the lineup. Plus, they have experience, having been in this exact same spot last year, falling to Menchville. I'm just not ready to jump on the Woodbridge bandwagon yet. They beat WS over spring break, but if they both make it to Saturday, Woodbridge will see Wahl, who they did not see previously. I'm going with a final of WS vs. Cosby.

Also note that tomorrow's WB/Cosby game has been moved from 7pm to noon at Westfield.

stilllearning, what was your assessment of the Matoaca team? Did you pick them to beat Western Branch?

should be some great baseball to see the next couple of days- seems like the Northen Teams will have an advantage with pretty much home games just up the road- Central and Eastern Teams have quite a trip

This time of year pitchers tend to be a little bit spent and the batters seems to be really seeing the ball ad hiting well

Wahl seems to be pretty well touted - reminds me of another kid from the Central Region last year who was also drafted by the Clevland Indians as a pitcher.

Looks like a senior prank that maybe went too far. They left beer kegs on the roof...painted the windows with "suggestive" things.

Supposedly they have security video of the people that pulled it off.

El Gato- Maoaca has been a high ranked good team all year. I think they had Seniors in every position on the field- line up included 4 or 5 D1 players and a couple of D3's.

Unfortunatey for them they lost one of their big contributors to an injury in the District final. He could still swing the bat but no pitching or fieldng. Certainly the injury didnt help him at the plate
The kid that pitced for them was their #2 who has done an outstanding job all year. Their #1 had thrown over 100 pitches Friday and was not an option

I had not seen WB play so I really didnt know who to pick.

I read in the paper the time for woodbridge game was changed because Cosby has its graduaion ceremony Friay night

Check the "va draft connections" discussion string. Bob Wahl posted quite an impressive comment about the mlb draft and his son/family including why hi son is going to Ole Miss and the connection there. The posting went up about 45 mins. ago.

I read thaQuad...some great insight. Sometimes as a parent you wis there was a dress rehersal before some of these real decisions confront you! You realize you are playing for keeps and all the other players have played the game many more times than you.
For him to share aout his experience is awesome... gives folks a chance to have a little insight should they find themselvs in similar situation!
Base on what little I know sounds like they got some great advice and took a very practical approach.

some with teensgers might be happy if ther kid brught home $1100 a month though!! At least get them off the cell phone bill- when I read it i thought WOW... a kid contributing money!!
