It depends on need, academics, and also how much the school is giving away. VJC is giving more away than ever before because we are expanding so our scholarship offers tend to be higher than the average however, there is no baseball money. To add to that DI has 11.7 scholarships per team...Baseball is not a money sport and more students play baseball who are not on scholarship than those that do. Just an FYI you should be aware of!
For our son, DIII provided an option for him to earn a degree from a terrific university.
It provided him an opportunity to play college baseball and "earn" playing time.
It provided an opportunity for him to play in summer collegiate leagues and be seen as having some potential to play beyond college.
It provided him an opportunity to earn a college degree and play a high level of baseball without ever receiving a benefit that wasn't available to any other member of the student body.
In my view, DIII does "give" a lot, but it does not "give" anything based on being a baseball player.
