The recent sweep of the Bearcats by The Florida Gators Feb 10,11,12. 40-8 should be downright embarassing. Maybe the "give me a big kid, then I'll teach him to play baseball" isn't working for college coaches. I'm not saying this is all there is to it. But, anyone around baseball knows a smaller guy rarily gets looked at by college coaches unless he has "contacts"(a friend in the college baseball business). I found the starting 6 guys on both teams that played the most, interesting. Look at the only Bearcat to break 300.

YOUR posting of the Gator's roster shoots down YOUR own premis Eek

I tip my cap to Cinci for their guts, alot of teams would have their heads handed to them by the Gators, esp. northern teams who are seeing their first outdoor live pitching
I knew somebody would slam me over this, and miss my point. The number one team in the nation must not be just grabbing the biggest players they can get. They must be actually recruiting talent and skill. If an Ohio school the with the size and resources of the University of Cincinnati doesn't even belong in the same ballpark with the Gators, who does?
Ohiobb, I may have missed your point

if UC recruits shorter players, they'll have more sucess Confused

UC & UF don't recruit the same guys -
the new ball park will help, but in the tri-state region, UC still falls behind many Big 10 & MAC schools in players preferences

that said, some aquaintances were recruited by Cleary and his methods were "curious"

Just a quick check of U of C roster-7 players under 6', Ohio State 10 players
under 6'. Were these all walkons? Non-recruited?

Have you checked the rosters of many other colleges? Most have plenty of players that are under 6'. TALENT comes in all sizes and is certainly recruited heavily in college.

Tough for a Northern school to be at top form the first of February but Southern Illinois put it to FAU; Northwestern won 1 of three against USF(the
other 2 were decided in the last inning).

It can be done. The bat doesn't know how big the holder is. Nor the ball.
fyi, here is shot of this yrs (2006) Ohio TOP 10 form Fish's Buckeye Scout News

1. Andrew Oliver, LHP, L/L, 6-3/200, Vermilion, OKLAHOMA STATE
2. Chad Rodgers, LHP, L/L, 6-3/185, Walsh Jesuit, KENT STATE
3. Kyle Smith, RHP, R/R, 6-6/190, Louisville, KENT STATE
4. Chris Walden, RHP, R/R, 6-4/180, Bellefontaine, KENTUCKY
5. Aaron Opelt, OF, L/R, 6-3/190, Fremont Ross, TOLEDO (Football)
6. Brad Stillings, RHP/C, L/R, 6-2/185, Washington Courthouse, KENT STATE
7. Billy Kitchen, RHP/OF, R/R, 6-3/185, Miamisburg, INDIANA
8. Brandon White, C, R/R, 5-11/185, Wheelersburg, KENT STATE
9. Shea Harry, C, L/R, 5-11/190, Hamilton Ross, SOUTH CAROLINA
10. Brennan Glass, RHP/C, 6-4/215, Springfield South (uncommitted)

notes*

"ONE" Ohio school is recruiting Ohio hard
"little" Glass isn't so little Eek
"20%" are under 6'
"4" are catchers
"0" position players

Isnt the Opelt boy a outfielder?

You say no position players

Guys I would avise you n ot to get hung up on size because you are going to overlook a load of excellent talent if you do

I am also a bit confused by OHIO and his post--Florida has 4 players of the 6 he lists under 6 ft in height--The Bearcats have just one in their six players--the logic doesnt fit the data
agree there is a good amount of baseball talent in the Cinci area, but,
just because it ends up elsewhere does not mean they don't go after it

Cleary's Conf USA record speaks for itself,
if he doesn't live up to expectations in the Big East "FAST" - look for some "QUICK" changes

jmo, but a good one

Ohio,

You are drawing conclusions from data that is too small of a sample in order to give you any valid result. Your data is based upon 3 games against the same team. With that small of a base you will not get any valid results regardless what you are trying to measure.

The very reason why at the beginning of the season in pro ball you see batting averages and ERA's infinitely small as well as large. Over time they will seek a more appropiate level.
