2 outs, bases loaded. Ball is hit to 2nd and he throws to first. Runner tags first base. Umpire calls him out, then gives a safe signal because the 1st baseman never caught the ball. Runner, hearing that he was called out, starts to the dugout then goes to 1st where he is tagged and called out. In the meantime, the runner on 3rd crosses the plate. Should the run count since the base runner was safe at first originally?

ahhh Mechanics...........the longer I umpire the more I am sure that most if not the vast majority of umpire errors are because an umpire has used poor mechanics.........

In this case, a well timed call would have eliminated the double call that led this umpire into this problem....

See the play..... make the call.........verbalize the call.......it only takes a second longer, but in most cases it makes the difference in being right the first and only time.

Like MST has posted, this is fixable and should have been.........
