Two outs. Runners on second and third. Batter hits grounder to third baseman. The third baseman tags the runner going to third before the batter gets to first but after the runner on third crosses home plate. Does the run count? (Mainly wondering whether the tag occuring before the hitter reaches first has any bearing on the play, since usually on a non-force out if the run crosses the plate first it counts but I don't think it would have counted if the batter had been forced out at first regardless of when the runner crossed home).

The third out wasn't a force out, or ON THE BR before he reached first, so the run counts.

Another way to understand it is to look at the rule that says how runs are scored.

A runner scores a run when he advances to home before there are three outs to end the inning, except a run is not scored during action when the third out is made:

--By the batter-runner before he touches first base,

--By another runner being forced out, or

--By a preceding runner called out on appeal because he left a base too early or failed to touch a base.

None of those exceptions apply, so the run counts.

And it doesn't matter if the tag occurred before or after the batter-runner reached first.
