Tuesday's games were all washed out.

On Wednesday, L.C. Bird got the bats going to beat Midlothian, 17-7.

Thursday's big game was the first matchup of the season between Cosby and James River. Cosby lefty Hunter Ackerman beat James River for the second straight outing (going back to last year's district tourney finale), holding JR to 3 singles and 1 unearned run in a 4-1 win. Austin Stadler went the whole game for JR, giving up only 4 singles, but 3 of them came in the fateful 3-run third inning. Stadler also drove in the Rapids' only run in the 5th.

Also on Thursday, Manchester beat Midlothian, 10-3. Manchester's Chris Hardee has had two consecutive strong starts to put Manchester into contention. Midlothian figured to be in the running at least for a playoff spot due to its strong offense, but its pitching was a question mark. Unfortunately the question may be getting answered in the negative, as they have now given up 27 runs in 2 games over 2 days to land in last place. It's early, but ... Ouch!
