In the game of the day, Cosby topped Midlothian, 7-6. The game was a tight see-saw battle for its first half, but got sloppy in the second half. Cosby took the lead by scoring 4 runs without benefit of a hit in the 4th, then allowed the Trojans to retake the lead, 6-5. Jake Lowery's RBI single tied it up in the bottom of the 6th. When Lowery got into a rundown trying to advance to second (and was put out) the runner who had begun the play at first tried to score, and found himself also in a rundown. But Midlo muffed a throw that should've resulted in an inning-ending putout, instead allowing the go ahead run to score.

L.C. Bird won at Clover Hill, 8-4, for its first win against a non-city district opponent this year. At this point Bird is playing for pride after a surprisingly poor showing prior to this game. The big news here is Clover Hill's Sean Tierney being kept off the mound by shoulder tendonitis. That development threatens Clover Hill's playoff hopes, as they have now dropped into sixth place in the standings.

Monacan and Manchester got the easy wins over Wythe and Huguenot, respectively.

The day's big winner might well have been idle James River, who, with Cosby's win, now has some breathing room in the standings, being up 2 in the loss column over Midlothian and Cosby. But the Rapids face Cosby next, and Midlothian awaits on May 8, so the season is far from decided.
