James River got its 4th shutout in 5 games, and 6th out of 9 games so far this season, to top Manchester, 3-0. Austin Stadler went 6 innings on 4 hits and 6 K's. Longwood-bound Chris Briere closed his 6th game of the year, 4th save, still no runs allowed this year. Manchester's catcher-turned-pitcher Chris Hardee showed a lot of good stuff and gave up only one 3-run inning in a complete game effort; in fact, 2 of those runs could've been prevented with better defense. Dspite struggling to score runs of late, JR remains undefeated (7-0/9-0) and in first place. Manchester, which had started 4-0, falls to 4-3 and into a tie for fourth.
Details are not yet known, but Midlothian did defeat Monacan, to stay hot on James River's heels at 6-1 in the district. Monacan fell to 3-4 and is falling down the standings to 6th.
Cosby, the new school drawn heavily from what was formerly Clover Hill territory, came from behind to beat Clover Hill, 10-7. Dustin Sollars went 3-4 with 5 RBI for the Titans. Sean Tierney, only 2 days after going 6 innings at James River, tried to close the game out but couldn't hold off Cosby. Tierney took his 3rd loss of the season and Clover Hill is now tied with Manchester for 4th place. Cosby, on the other hand, is 5-2 and in sole possession of third, having fallen only to JR and Midlo, and those by close scores.
L.C. Bird pummeled Wythe, 21-0, for only its second district win in what is turning out to be a lost season for the Skyhawks. Huguenot was idle.
