At least one game got played this afternon before the rain got heavy, not sure yet about the rest of the slate.

James River got a first-inning grand slam from Chris Briere and a fifth-inning, 3-run homer from Tyler Gruhl to build an 8-1 lead at Monacan, then hold on through a late Chiefs spurt fueled by a two-out error and a James Lawrence homer and win, 8-5. Austin Stadler pitched a complete game, only 1 earned run, 8 hits and 9 K's. With the win, James River maintains a 2-game lead over second place Midlothian and thus, will hold onto the lead no matter what the outcome of Tuesday's showdown with the Trojans.

Midlothian was idle. Clover Hill and L.C. Bird were scheduled vs. Huguenot and Wythe and so surely won if those were played. No info yet on the Manchester at Cosby matchup.

Clover Hill won its game last Thursday. Bird's game at Huguenot was postponed until today, and Bird did win.

Took a while to find out what happened in the Manchester game at Cosby, but apparently it was a doozy. The teams locked up in a scoreless tie through 7 innings when rain stopped it. Ronnie Shaban pitched for Cosby. I do not know the name of the Manchester pitcher but understand he was a sophomore getting his first start -- a pretty darn good debut, considering the tough Cosby offense. Unfortunately this game may never get finished, unless it affects the playoff seedings at the end of the year (which it very well could).
