Daniel Marrs thoroughly dominated Clover Hill for the second straight week as James River won, 4-0. Marrs was perfect through 5 1/3, and finished with 12 K's while allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk. Fastball sat at 95 and peaked at 97. Clover Hill was unable to capitalize on a strong effort by Cody Powell, who allowed only 3 hits himself, though his 6 walks aided in 2 of James River's runs.

Cosby shut out Monacan with their # 3 pitcher, Kyle McKay, going the distance. Ryan Parker went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI and Tadd Bower homered for the Titans.

Monacan has been in a tailspin, especially since losing their best pitcher, Jake Tuzzo, whose cheek was broken and lacerated by a line drive to the face. Good news to report, though, Tuzzo was in uniform yesterday to support his teammates and the word is he's in good spirits and has suffered no vision issues at all. We look forward to a strong senior season from Jake.

Monacan could have fallen all the way into last place had Midlothian not yielded a 6-run 5th inning to L.C. Bird, which won 7-2 behind another strong outing from Andrew Deal. Bird climbed into 3rd place after a poor district season start.
James River had an easy day of it at Monacan, winning 8-1 as Monacan dropped its 5th straight district game after winning its opener. With its two top starting pitchers out with season-ending injuries, the rest of the season looks like tough sledding for the Chiefs. Ryan Oliver actually threw well today, and suffered some from lack of support on both offense and defense. Ian Harvey had 3 RBI for James River as he, Eamon Schwartz and Jack Cleary all had 2 hits with a double apiece. Austin Stadler got back on the beam, hurling 6 2-hit innings with 9 K's for the W.

Monacan's slide still hasn't quite taken it all the way to last place, though, because Midlothian got absolutely shelled by Cosby, 15-2. Five different Titans homered in the 5-inning route and Hunter Ackerman pitched a complete game with no earned runs allowed, although he did struggle with his control a bit.

Can anyone beat Cosby? We await Tuesday's matchup at James River, probably the last shot of anyone pinning a regular season loss on the Titans.
