In the first games of the week to actually get played:

L.C. Bird continued its hot streak into third place with a 7-4 win over Monacan. Jacob Karr homered for Bird and Andrew Deal threw another complete game for the W.

Blake Houser of Manchester shut out Midlothian for 4 innings and the Lancers finished the Trojans off in 5, 12-2.

Midlothian junior Miles McQuaig threw a scare into Cosby, holding them scoreless for 4 innings, but Cosby scratched a run across in the 5th and got a homer from Tadd Bower in the 6th to escape with a 3-0 win. Hunter Ackerman threw 6 2/3 shutout innings, Ronnie Shaban got the save by notching a strikeout with the tying run at the plate.

This may have been the one chance James River had of someone else tagging a loss on Cosby to have a shot at putting 1st place at stake in Tuesday's coming makeup game. But Cosby dodged the bullet and maintains a 2-game lead in the standings.
Standings at week's end:

1. Cosby 7-0
2. James River 6-2
3. L.C. Bird 5-3
4. Manchester 4-3
5. Clover Hill 3-4
6. Monacan 1-7
7. Midlothian 1-8

Due to rain, most of the teams have at least one 3-game week coming up either this week or next week (the last week of the regular season). So we may see some upsets as teams are forced to go deep into their pitching. Cosby, Manchester and Clover Hill in particular have 5 district matchups they need to get done, so they can't hide their # 3 starter in a non-district game.

i dont think cosby is concerned of hiding their number 3 if i remember correctly their number three has already faced a district opponent in monacan and held them to 0 runs in a 7 inning contest

I think the DH with Randolph-Henry was always on Cosby's schedule, though it may have been rained out and rescheduled from an earlier date. I have no knowledge of the other situation.

Why would one of the pre season favorites to win the state championship schedule that DH? What did they learn that will help them v. JR or Western Branch or Oakton ?
