What door is closing?
I sometimes get distressed when I hear in July that people think the door is just closing, for many many players it's just opening.
Not sure what you were expecting from one camp visit and one showcase. What more have you done in the recruting process? Has your son called anyone to let them know he is interested in their school abd program, are you all targeting the right programs? Did you send your son to the right camp? Have you attended camps/showcases in your state. My understanding is there are many programs in Texas, may not be the one he want to play for, but many schools in your state should be a consideration.
Is he playing anymore this summer? Where? If so, he needs to get out there and you all need to find something meaningful for the fall.
Okay, I needed to hear this. We just received a lot of information before July 1st and right after Stanford, several phone calls and then everything died, no phone calls, no mail etc. So I just thought okay, we might be knocking on D3 doors.

We have a game plan, videos are about to go out, he is going to Head First Camp in August, trying to decide where to spend the money on individual camps at which schools. We have targeted small academic school(only one in Texas) His team has one more tournament in Stillwater, then they are through.

I guess this would be part of the down of ups and downs and I just needed some reassurance from ones that have experienced all of this.

I am now going to have a glass of wine and try to remember enjoy the ride of this process. Thank God for this website and all the wonderful people that are willing to share their experience. THANK YOU!!!!

I think this is a great question. My answer as others is simple - no. I believe Bob Howdeshell has written/collected the definitive pieces on the subject in Recruiting Tips and Timeline. If it's next August 1st, then the door may be closing. If you are waiting for the phone to ring you may be disappointed. If you make it happen then it will happen.
Since you are posting on this site, I hope you've taken the time to read ALL the available recruiting info. including advice to parents and significant recruiting threads.

Remember, it will be too hard on your heart to be in full panic mode for the rest of the summer and the high school season as the recruiting process will continue through next Spring. Don't expect constant contact, only sporadic letters or phone calls. You can't go to every camp, so target the best fits based on objective assessments of his baseball and academic levels. If you haven't been to a PG showcase, go, and get rated (make sure he's in terrific shape and form). Make sure he keeps his grades up and studies for that SAT. Everything else will take care of itself.
My Son got his first call yesterday after playing in the BCS Tournament in Ft. Myers. Everyone here on this site, as well as others that I have been in contact with confirm that there is no need to get impatient or concerned. I understand the difficulty involved in maintaining composure. It certainly is a roller coaster ride. I thought I liked roller coasters...
baseballmomtwo:
Thanks for sharing this info. That is a good question. I was thinking the same thing.Son ws invited to Area Code did well which generated a few calls on July 1st, then all went silent, he played well at East Cobb and one of the schools that showed interest was there. Nothing since. I suspect they extremely busy getting around to as many games as possible, trying to see all there prospects. So as I have continued to tell my son, and wife patience is very important. Contiue to keep in contact with the coaches and schools you have interest in and working on the academic side along with the atletic side and things will take form.
Thanks to the posters that responded because your replies helped me realize that what I am trying to express to my son.

patience is very good advice ...
recruiting basicly goes in "waves" & most (tho not all) of the guys getting the early interest were on that particular college's "A list" looong ago ..

if a player was not on an early "A list" it takes time for most who have just been recently seen to get to the "actively recruiting" part of any list -
AND, some fortunate schools will fill all their needs from their early lists & tho you might'a been their next guy to start getting active calls, you may never know it
(if calls HAD been coming they might'a filled their needs/moved another player UP the list)

some may argue that there is more than 1 "academic school" in Texas ..

what do they know Roll Eyes - - me? .. I'll take your observation to heart Wink

A teammate of my son's got a flurry of calls and text messages from a Big 12 program after his solid Area Code tryout performance. Then the Big 12 head coach flew down to see him play and his performance was only mediocre. The text messages/calls stopped and the player and his parents were really bummed. Three days ago, the text messages and calls from the program resumed. Who knows what happened, but don't assume silence means disinterest.
The rumor on the street is that D1 schools are waiting until after the meeting in August to see how much money they have to work with. Some of the schools are not even talking to players now because they have nothing to say and the kids & parents are wanting to talk money. Look for things to pickup in September. The 2008 class is going to have to be patient because the rules have been changed for them and no one knows how everything is going to play out. I have seen kids this Summer that would have had 2 or 3 good SEC or ACC offers last season that are not being spoken to by anyone.

Kind of the same question: Son got call from D1 (In his top 3) the morning of July 1st expressing a lot of interest. Follow-up call expressed desire to see him play again (we live far from the school) said they would fly out to see him. In discussing schedule, son mentioned attending camps of two other schools (we signed up in May). Son expressed much interest in school and has called them too. Now, havent heard a peep in a week. Nothing about trying to come see him play?? Is patience just the key word here or do they think he is not interested b/c he went to another camp.
New to posting but have been reading for a couple of years now. My son is also feeling like the door is closing on his opportunities. He has sent the letters, the followup emails, some phone calls.....but has not received the 1st direct phone call. He has received numerous invites to prospect camps but is feeling like "everyone" receives those as well. Attended Team One South at Emory as a LHP and got good feedback from several coaches. Pitched sparingly at WWBA 17U and 18U due to huge depth on summer team with pitchers (several already verbally committed to Vandy). Pitched well at Sandlott 18U and Sandlott HS tourney in Nashville, Tn and received good feedback. Yet, bottomline, no phone calls. 6'1" LHP with avg speed 83 and command of 3 pitches......is there still hope?
Good academic student and will not sacrifice academics for baseball opportunities but feels may not have to worry about that since he hasn't received any opportunities as of yet!
There is always hope---there is hope until the day next year when he as to step in the college classroom

Since you say he is a solid academic student make sure he applies to the schools he wants to attend as early as possible---

There is still plenty of time in the process

Can you define "good feedback" ?
One of the Team One directors sought him out after his appearance and told him he looked great, had good command of the plate, and would definately be hearing from schools. He also told him he was very impressed by his "polish" or what you guys on this site refer to as the 6th tool. Other feedback has been "good command but needs a little more power"; others spoke well of his slider. I think one of the most difficult things about this process is most 17yr olds do not even know where they want to go to college, much less who to target as their "baseball choices". I've told him to continue with patience and perseverance. He is currently playing WR on his HS football team so attending many fall camps will be difficult. We are going to try to attend a couple of the prospect invites he has received.
