R1 going into second second baseman receiving ball from short stop tags the bag on the out side of the bag R1 does not slide touches inside of bag and runs through the base second base man does not throw the ball I look to first runner is 2 steps from the bag second base would have never have had a play I just punch out R1 coach comes unglued and want interference
because the runner did not slide I tell him there is not a slide rule he doesn't have to slid he just cant interfere with the play. he did like that very much. was I right?

As I read t, the runner didn't contact the fielder or alter his ability to throw to frst. If all that is true, then you are correct. The rulebook says he does not have to slide but if he does he has to slide legally. If he doesn't he can't alter play.
My only suggestion is don't turn to first next time. The FPSR doesn't care if the play is possible. All you are ruling on is did the runner alter his ability. The BR could be touching first for all you care, if he violates the rule, you bang both.

That's an ugly feeling - staring at a base with nothing happening while a whole lot of stuff is going on behind your back (where the ball is). I don't think you will do that again either.

Cant watch the ball all the time. but this time i should have

Watch the ball, glance at the runners. Stay chest to ball and let the throw take you to the play.
