Watching the Red Sox Indians game and I am thinking of Doug. He was a SF Giants scout and our Area Code Giants team Manager, who discovered Dustin Pedroia from Woodland, California. Dustin has the 6 tool and Doug reminded me constantly.

Bob - I did in fact get to sit with Doug on several occasions. He gave me some great insights on players in the mid-2000's in the Pac10, some who went on to win Cy Youngs and other awards. He was always kind, incredibly insightful...and fairly blunt. I really enjoyed talking with him and miss him as well.
Nice JBB. I remember and never forget my last private conversation with him. It was about my own players dilemma, like so many here have thought about or been in the same sitution, college vs the draft. His answer was so awesome, mainly because he was a dad first.
I still refer to his advice to this day on this site, when asked the same questions that I asked years ago.
His son went to same hs as my son. He was older. His older son coached varsity and we were hoping he would be there but moved. Super nice young man.
I never met bb scout. Saw him around and their hs coach knew him.
Heard nothing but great things.
