Lots of other great players mentioned. I can't really say much pre-1970, but I have just never seen a catcher like Johnny Bench since. Ivan Rodriguez is close, but Bench was better IMO. Just haven't seen anything like him.

My pitchers would Satchel Paige, Walter Johnson, Cy Young, Grover Cleveland Alexander, and Pedro Martinez respectively.
